(a) Every student admitted to an undergraduate degree program shall have a
high school diploma or meet the institution's written standards
demonstrating the ability to succeed in college.

(b) A maximum of 75 percent of the units or credit that may be applied
toward the award of a bachelor's degree may be derived from a combination
of any or all of the following:

(1) Units earned at institutions approved by the Council, public or
private institutions of higher learning accredited by an accrediting
association recognized by the United States Department of Education,
or any institution of higher learning, including foreign
institutions, if the institution offering the undergraduate program
documents that the institution of higher learning at which the units
were earned offers degree programs equivalent to degree programs
approved by the Council or accredited by an accrediting association
recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.


(2) Challenge examinations and standardized tests such as the
College Level Placement Tests for specific academic disciplines.


(3) Prior experiential learning to the extent permitted under
Section 71890.


(c)(1) Graduation requirements for undergraduate degree programs shall
include provisions for general education appropriate to the level and type
of degree.

(2) At least 25 percent of the requirements for the associate
degree and the bachelor's degree shall be in general education. This
requirement does not apply to the Specialized Associate Degree
(Occupational) or the Associate of Applied Science Degree referenced
in Section 71855(a)(1). General education offered as part of these
programs shall be necessary for a student to achieve the educational
objectives of the program in which he or she is enrolled. General
education shall also be at the same level of quality as that taught
in Bachelor's or Associate degree programs which are approved
pursuant to Sections 71855 and 71860 of this Article. It shall
consist of courses and other organized educational activities
designed to introduce students to each of the major divisions of
formal learning such as the natural sciences, the social sciences,
the humanities, the skills of writing and speaking, and mathematics.

(3) The institution shall specify the distribution of general
education requirements by subject area for each undergraduate degree
program.
